W.W.Greener of St Mary's Works, Birmingham Double Barrel Side by side 12 bore shotgun. Inscribed to barrel rib after makers name is a record of its awards which roughly dates it quite nicely 'Winner at the London Gun trials 1875, 1877, 1878, 1879'.
This is a gorgeous quality shotgun by a known innovative gunmaker and inventor, in a 1910 advert (see photo of advert in our copy of W.W. Greeners 'The Gun' published 1910) the price would appear to have been in the region of £31.10.0 to £42 for the mid range of 'F' grade 'Greener's Hammerless Guns which in todays money would equal about £3199 to £4,334.
Overall VGC to excellent, retains about 100% 'browning' finish to barrels, Greener patent 'side safety bolt' which moves, Gold lettering to the word 'safe'. High Quality Scrollwork engraving to action, Tiger grained wooden butt with sadly a crack at the wrist which seems solidly repaired in the past, few dinks to wood from use. Anson and Deely forend. Opening action.
Fully deactivated, comes with EU 2018 spec deactivation certificate. This is a really lovely atrisitc piece and would make a superb wall hanger or collectable item.
