The 30-30 (or 30 WCF) was the first American small-bore, smokeless-powder sporting cartridge. It was designed by Winchester and first marketed in 1895 as one of the chamberings for the model 1894 lever-action rifle. Various rifles have been chambered for it since.
The original 30-30 had round nose bullet heads to prevent a primer on a bullet in front being set off in the tube magazine of the Winchester underlever, however the round proved popular and has since been manufactured as a pointed round for non tube magazine firearms.
