The Mills grenade was the first really successful British grenade, developed by mills from a Belgian design it became the standard hand grenade and in various guises culminated in the No36 which was till in use during WW2
This example has the early dished pattern base plug and is dated 3/16. The lever bottom half has been repaired, replacement pin & ring. It has probably been ground dug and has signs of corrosion, although equally it could be poor casting as these were never a well finished item. Overall a good example of the No5 priced to condition.
