Aiming posts were used with all non-direct fire artillery as a method of providing a fixed point for laying the gun sights on, preferably a distant G.A.P. (Gun Aiming Point) is used as this provides greater accuracy, but in poor weather or at night the posts come into their own. Used condition, a pair of round or square topped posts will be sent as issued to guns. The posts were carried across the front of the shield
These posts are missing their crossheads which were dispensed with around the 1970's. The pivot screw is still present however so it should be possible to make a suitable replacement which will look the part.
