Nice Brass 'Colt Revolvers' Belt buckle, appears quite old, came in with a job lot of items. We only have the plate, not the fittings.
Marked to reverse with American eagle and 'Warranted Finest Minted Brass' and a coat of arms with 'Fairchild' under, below that it is marked 'Deane and Adams London England' Which makes this item quite interesting as Deane and Adams were in competition with Colt in the early 1850's in their attempt to supply a new revolver design to the War Department, so it's unlikely they would have been making belt buckles with Colt's name on, after some checking it turns out that there was a well planned and executed fraud perpetrated by unknown persons in the 1960's and 70's to sell manufactured 'rare' belt buckles. Many still turn up now, and it's highly likely that it ever had it's partner item which would have fixed the belt in place on the buckle, so on this basis we are making it clear that this is NOT an original CColt item, but probably one of the 'faked' pieces.
However it's a nice piece, especially for a Colt Collector.
